The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis anticipate hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Statistics and Data Science to begin in August 2021, pending final budgetary approval. Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD in Statistics, or related areas in Mathematical Sciences, with research interests in statistical and mathematical modeling and analysis of complex, dependent high dimensional data. Candidates with interests in foundational statistics in classification, clustering, and dimension reduction of big data and those with research interests at the intersection of statistics, graph theory and applied mathematics with a focus on data science are especially welcomed to apply. Candidates are expected to have a proven record of collaborative research, strong communications skills, and will be expected to seek external funding. The Department has a strong PhD program in Statistics, Graph Theory and Applied Mathematics, with very active research collaborations with several other units within and also outside the University. The successful candidate will typically teach two courses per semester in statistics and conduct collaborative research especially in the context of projects related to data science and big data modeling and analysis.
