The Quality Manager will be responsible for leadership of all aspects of Sundyne’s Quality organization including the ISO9001-certified Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Control and Supplier Quality & Development.
The successful Quality Manager will balance intimate day-to-day leadership for a team of 11 direct reports in support of production order execution activities and supplier development initiatives, driving value via process excellence in the QMS, and ensuring compliance to ISO9001 and Customer requirements.
The Quality Manager must be able to establish and foster strong, effective working relationships with leaders of other functional departments including Applications Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, Planning, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Assembly, Test, R&D and Aftermarket.
This is a day-shift, salaried position that works under limited supervision, reporting directly to the Manager of Operational Excellence. Up to 10% travel may be required.
Quality Management System
Ensure ongoing compliance and certification of the Sundyne QMS to ISO9001 and Customer requirements.
Lead site preparedness for and host ISO9001 third party and customer audits.
Ensure effective design and execution of the Internal Audit program and CAPA system.
Manage all Document Control related activities required for effective operation of the QMS.
Actively monitor Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) performance; analyze data and present recommendations for improvement to Top Management.
Prepare and deliver Management Reviews of the QMS to Top Management.
Partner with functional managers to drive value through all aspects of the organization via business and operations process excellence.
Oversee all areas of QC including Receiving Inspection, In-Process Inspection, Non-Destructive Testing, Calibration, and Final Inspection in support of production order execution.
Establish & monitor Key Process Indicators for each area of QC, conduct performance reviews, coach & mentor employees to ensure personal and professional growth, and manage the department budget.
Engage in and support production planning and execution activities; monitor load-to-capacity of the Quality staff and implement actions necessary to ensure adequate production support coverage.
Develop and execute strategies to ensure alignment of inspection capabilities / methods to industry standards and customer requirements.
Create and maintain a strategic plan for the growth and evolution of the department’s human and equipment capital that is aligned with the company strategic plan.
Interface with Field Service, Aftermarket and Customers to investigate or resolve customer complaints.
Direct continuous process improvement activities for the QC function.
Provide tactical support for the analysis and disposition of supplier nonconformances, monitor the overall health of the supplier nonconformance process and partner with area managers to ensure effective and timely operation of the process.
Partner with Supply Chain Management in establishing supplier scorecards and monitoring supplier performance. Drive improvements in supplier performance through the Supplier Corrective Action process and application of root cause analysis tools.
Oversee the qualification of new suppliers in support of new product development and re-sourcing initiatives, including remote or on-site quality system assessment, process capability assessment, first article inspections.
Develop and execute annual supplier surveillance & supplier development plan, proactively work with targeted suppliers on development initiatives to drive best-in-class quality and delivery.
Direct continuous process improvement activities for the SQE function.
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum 5 years of experience working in a similar role in an industrial or aerospace manufacturing environment.
Minimum 5 years in a leadership role (management or supervisory).
Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or other technical discipline required.
Deep understanding of ISO9001 with demonstrated experience managing an ISO9001-certified QMS.
Working knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, ASNT industry standards.
Demonstrated experience leading a Supplier Quality / Supplier Development function.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with customers and resolving customer complaints.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification, or equivalent, preferred.
Advanced proficiency with MS Office suite including ability to summarize and analyze data and trends.
