This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.
Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.

You could be the Postdoctoral Appointee we are seeking to join our diverse team. You will work with The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies. Our Department is an Energy-funded nanoscience research facility that provides users from around the world with access to state of the art expertise and instrumentation in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with a focus on nanoscience integration. You will conduct experimental research in the quantum sensing using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond. We will be developing a diamond-NV platform as a nanoscale magnetic resonance sensor for a variety of nanomaterials.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Use cutting-edge optical techniques to control and readout color centers in diamond
Use radio and microwave frequency radiation to operate NV centers as quantum sensors
Integrate of diamond chips with nanomaterials such as magnetic nanoparticles
Present the results of your research at properly suited international conferences
Writeup and publish the results in high impact journals
The Nanosystems Synthesis/Analysis department (01882) is one of two departments at Sandia that are a part of The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility at Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs, open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro- and macro world. You have a PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Quantum Information, or related discipline
You will have proven communication skills as evidenced by a record of publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences
Your experience will include experimental research and technique development
You will have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L Clearance
Experimental background in a field related to quantum information.
Experience with optical techniques for photoluminescence experiments
Experience with microwave resonance techniques.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
