The Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) calls for applications for
ELBE postdoctoral fellowships
The ELBE postdoctoral fellows program fosters theoretical and computational approaches to biological systems and provides an ideal springboard to an independent research career.
What we provide
The CSBD provides 2-3 year fully funded positions in an international and cross-disciplinary research environment. ELBE postdoctoral fellows benefit from close collaborations with scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), and the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), and a stimulating and inspiring atmosphere, see http://www.csbdresden.de
They will have full access to state-of-the-art research facilities and infrastructure on the campus. Dresden is a vivid and international scientific center, with a large number of research institutions that are collaborating under the DRESDEN-concept umbrella. Its position as an outstanding location for research and science is recognized world-wide, and since 2012, the Technische Universität Dresden is one of eleven Excellence Universities in Germany.
What we seek
We seek outstanding young researchers with a strong interest and background in using theoretical and computational approaches to study biological systems and processes. Ideal candidates have a doctoral degree in physics, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline. A strong commitment to work in a multi-disciplinary environment between biologists and theoreticians is expected. ELBE postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to collaborate with more than one research group and are given the opportunity to include experimental work in their projects.
Selection of ELBE Fellows is based on scientific merit with two application cycles per year. Short-listed candidates should be prepared to join a selection symposium held in Dresden on May 15, 2019, with travel costs covered by the CSBD. Deadline for applications is March 10, 2019.

About Center for Systems Biology Dresden
The Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) is an initiative of the Max-Planck Society in collaboration with the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), one of the eleven German Excellence Universities. It was started in 2010 by the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) and the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) with the generous support of the Saxon State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts, the BMBF, and the Klaus Tschira Stiftung. The center was built on the joint interdisciplinary research program between MPI-CBG and MPI-PKS.
The center is housed in a new building on the MPI-CBG campus in the immediate vicinity of the University Clinic, the Center for Regenerative Therapies (CRTD), the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC) of TUD, the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), and the B CUBE. The ground breaking for the building was in Fall of 2014 and the first groups moved in in March 2017. The building features optics suites for custom microscopy, server rooms for our state-of-the-art compute cluster, an immersive visualization cave, and 10G cabling throughout. The center is further being... connected to the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing of TUD through a 10x10G redundant link to provide fast access to their high-performance compute clusters with tens of thousands of cores.
The full organizational structure of the center includes steering and executive committees. The center has core members from the two Max Planck institutes that work within the new building, a collection of collaborating affiliates, and a broader circle of partners. In addition to its research activities, the center runs a Ph.D. funding program through the International Max Planck Research School for Cell, Developmental and Systems Biology (IMPRS-CellDevoSys) and further offers postdoc fellowships through its ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows and Visiting Faculty Program
