We are seeking a computer science or computational science professional to lead analyses of HPC systems and applications. On any given day, you may be called on to:
Provide technical user support, HPC cluster systems administration, application porting and debugging, benchmarking, performance analysis and tuning, and application/tool development and support
Apply tools and expertise to perform analysis and debugging of applications and their interactions with the HPC system software, user environment and associated hardware
Support large scientific computing platforms and the applications/users that make use of them
Partner with other Sandia teams, projects and other supercomputer sites
Provide software development expertise in direct support of systems management, operations, monitoring and benchmarking
Energize the team to achieve fulfillment of specific job responsibilities as well as the broad-based objectives of a well-integrated HPC support team
Provide technical leadership and/or mentorship of less experienced staff

The Scientific Applications and User Support Department provides capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific/engineering computing, including high performance computing and visualization. The department provides user environments, it provides expertise and direct support to users, it provides and/or supports application-level software and tools, and it partners with application communities to develop and support scientific/engineering computing solutions.

Master's degree in computer science, engineering or related STEM discipline plus four years of experience in computer science and/or computational science
Experience with HPC systems and applications
Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments
Experience with software development in C/C++
Familiarity/experience with HPC architectures and HPC environments
Familiarity/experience with massively parallel programming, including MPI and/or multi-threading
Familiarity/experience with GPU programming and performance analysis
A blend of skills related to computer science, science, engineering, and/or mathematics and an interest in working across multiple disciplines
Abilities and interest in technical problem solving and in-depth consulting for applications in HPC environments
Familiarity/experience with modeling and simulation
Familiarity/experience with applications in data-intensive computing
Familiarity/experience with debugging large scale, parallel applications
Familiarity/experience with scalability studies and parallel efficiency analysis
Familiarity/experience with software engineering tools, processes and practices, such as Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban) and Extreme Programming (XP)
Familiarity/experience with emerging programming models and languages
Familiarity/experience with Fortran
Familiarity/experience with cloud-computing environments
History of successful research and development efforts
Ability to organize and lead technical teams
Ability to learn and apply new software tools
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and also work independently
Effective verbal, writing, and presentation skills
Customer service experience
Active DoE L or Q clearance, or DoD TS clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
